Case 1.
Error: Instead of ‘Inga’ the birth certificate issued in Poti, Georgia, in 1966 had ‘Ina’ written.
A reapplication was made to the civil registry office in 1968 to correct the error.
A new birth certificate with the corrected error was obtained.
Later, the new birth certificate (duplicate with corrections) was lost.
In 2021, a resident of Donbass living in Russia contacted us to obtain a new-format certificate.
It was discovered in the registry record that the corrections had not been made.
A document with the incorrect name was received.
The client expected the certificate to be corrected. However, our work was done honestly. We spent time trying different options to obtain the birth certificate with the correct name.
A conflict arose. Although we warned the client that the name would be as in the registry record.
Eventually, the client agreed to pay for the services as we fulfilled our obligations.
The solution involves:
- further application to the Poti civil registry office to find the record of correction
or - applying to the court to correct the name in the civil registry record and in the archive and to obtain a birth certificate with the changes made
The decision is up to the client. We understand that this involves additional expenses. But we are professional lawyers and cannot afford to work for free.
An adequate price was provided, corresponding to the level of our lawyers in Georgia.
Case 2.
In the client’s registry record, the gender was incorrectly written. Instead of “female,” it was written as “male.”
Additional certificates (medical and from school) were required to correct the gender in the birth certificate.
Case 3.
The client needed records of employment history from Tbilisi and other cities in Georgia. The records were not found in the Ministry of Justice archive.
Solution: visited all the workplaces specified by the client. The document on several pages was refused to be stitched. In Georgia, this is normal practice. But abroad, it is not accepted in this form.
Solution: stitched the sheets into one document when applying for an apostille (after receiving it, the stitching was done).
