Please note! In a Georgian birth certificate, as in most countries of the world, PATRONYMICS ARE NOT WRITTEN for either the parents or the child. There is no patronymic in Georgian certificates, and you should not request one. The father’s given name of the child is indicated.
Please note! In a Georgian birth certificate, as in most countries of the world, NATIONALITY IS NOT WRITTEN for either the parents or the child. If you require a separate document on nationality, please contact our agency.
You may refer to the old Soviet-style birth certificate, which indicates the patronymic and nationality. Please note that the certificate format has changed and is issued according to the form approved by law in Georgia.

Where to obtain a birth certificate in Georgia
A birth certificate in Georgia can be obtained in Tbilisi, at the House of Justice. If there are errors in the records or missing data in the archive, you must contact the civil registration authority where the birth was registered.
If a birth certificate is required for a child born abroad
In such cases, it is often necessary to provide birth documents, even if the child was born outside of Georgia. In this case, you can request an extract from the civil act record of birth. The civil act record is stored in the Civil Registry Office of the locality where the birth was registered.
What to do if you have an old birth certificate and need a new one?
If you have an old-style Georgian birth certificate, it may not be accepted in some countries. Such documents are not subject to apostille certification or legalization at consulates. In this case, you need to obtain a duplicate. A duplicate has the same legal force as the original, and it will be indicated that it is a duplicate. This does not entail any legal consequences.
Can I get a birth certificate in Cyrillic?
Unfortunately, it is impossible to obtain a birth certificate in Cyrillic. Such documents lost their validity after the collapse of the USSR. Duplicates or extracts from the civil act record are issued, depending on the circumstances. All official documents in Georgia are issued in the Georgian language. If the document contains full names in Cyrillic, they will be transliterated into Georgian according to the rules of the language and relevant laws.
Can I get a birth certificate in Russian?
In Georgia, the official language is Georgian. All documentation is maintained in Georgian. Therefore, your birth certificate will be in Georgian according to all writing rules. If you need a translation of the document into Russian, you should contact an authorized translator in Georgia or in the country where you will be submitting the document.
Can you translate my birth certificate into all languages?
Unfortunately, no. For example, for Romania we translate into English according to all transliteration rules based on documents already provided in Romanian. Such documents may include: a birth certificate in Romanian (Moldovan based on Latin script) from the Republic of Moldova or Romania, a marriage certificate in Romanian (Moldovan based on Latin script) from the Republic of Moldova or Romania, or a foreign citizen’s passport. Supporting documents will be required in notarized copies, in some cases with an apostille or consular legalization.
What to do if there are errors in the birth certificate?
It all depends on what the errors are. If it is an error in the surname, we can, based on the birth certificate of the father (if you have your father’s surname) or the mother (if you have your mother’s surname), correct the record in the archive of the Civil Registry Office or the House of Justice in Georgia to the correct version. If you do not have this option – you do not have the birth certificate of the father (mother) – then you will have to order such a document. The new document will show how your father’s or mother’s surname is written in the archive and will allow you to obtain a birth certificate with the corrected surname. If the matter concerns Georgian names (in the Georgian style), then the civil registration authorities of Georgia are guided by what nationality the person is and how their name is recorded in the passport. However, there are different situations, and each is considered individually.
Is it possible to correct the father’s or mother’s surname in my birth certificate?
It is only possible based on the birth certificate of the father or mother, and in some cases based on the parents’ marriage certificate.
What to do if there are no grounds for correction, but a correction is needed or desired?
In this case, you need to be very careful, because corrections in the birth certificate may have consequences for other documents. That is, you will have to correct all documents where your surname appears. And in some countries, a person with a changed surname or first name may be considered a different person.
So, is it possible? Yes, it is possible. Through the court of Georgia. We can help with this.
