Please note! In a Georgian marriage certificate, as in most countries worldwide, MIDDLE NAMES ARE NOT WRITTEN for spouses. Middle names are not included in Georgian certificates, so do not request them.
Please note! In a Georgian birth certificate, as in most countries worldwide, NATIONALITY IS NOT WRITTEN for either the parents or the child. If you need a separate document confirming nationality—contact our agency.
You may refer to a Soviet-era divorce certificate, which includes middle names and nationality. Keep in mind that the certificate format has changed and is now issued according to the legally approved form in Georgia.

Where to obtain a divorce certificate in Georgia:
A divorce certificate in Georgia can be obtained in Tbilisi at the House of Justice. If there are errors in the records or missing data in the archive, it is necessary to contact the civil registry office where the divorce was registered.
If a divorce certificate from Georgia is required, but the divorce was not in Georgia:
In such cases, Georgia does not issue a divorce certificate. However, if you need to confirm your status as unmarried and divorced, you will have to provide a marriage dissolution document from abroad. The original divorce certificate must be submitted in Georgia.
What to do if you have an old divorce certificate but need a new one?
If you have an old-style Georgian divorce certificate, it may not be accepted in some countries. Such documents cannot be apostilled or legalized at consulates. In this case, you must obtain a duplicate. The duplicate has the same legal force as the original and will indicate that it is a duplicate. This does not entail legal consequences.
Can I get a divorce certificate in Russian?
Unfortunately, obtaining a divorce certificate in Cyrillic is not possible. Such documents lost their validity after the collapse of the USSR. Duplicates or extracts from the civil registry are issued instead. All official documents in Georgia are issued in Georgian. If the document contains names in Cyrillic—they will be transliterated into Georgian according to language rules, i.e., transliteration rules and relevant laws.
Can I get a divorce certificate in Russian?
In Georgia, the official language is Georgian. All documentation is maintained in Georgian. Therefore, your divorce certificate will be in Georgian, following all writing rules. If you need a translation of the document into Russian, you should contact an authorized translator in Georgia or in the country where you will submit the document.
Can you translate my divorce certificate into all languages?
Unfortunately—no. For example, for Romania, we translate into English following all transliteration rules based on previously submitted documents in Romanian. Such documents may include: a birth certificate in Romanian (Moldovan in Latin script) from the Republic of Moldova or Romania, a marriage certificate in Romanian (Moldovan in Latin script) from the Republic of Moldova or Romania, or a foreign passport. Supporting documents will be required as notarized copies, in some cases with an apostille or consular legalization.
What to do if there are errors in the divorce certificate?
It depends on the errors. If it is a surname error, we can correct the record in the civil registry archive or the House of Justice in Georgia based on the father’s birth certificate (if you bear your father’s surname) or mother’s birth certificate (if you bear your mother’s surname). If you do not have such an option—no father’s (mother’s) birth certificate—you will need to order such a document. The new document will show how your father’s or mother’s surname is written in the archive and allow you to obtain a divorce certificate with the corrected surname. If it concerns Georgian names (in Georgian style), the civil registry authorities in Georgia follow the person’s nationality and how their name is written in their passport. However, situations vary, and each is considered individually.
What to do if there are no grounds for correction, but correction is needed or desired?
In this case, you must be very careful because corrections in a divorce certificate may affect other documents. That is, you will have to correct all documents where your surname appears. In some countries, a person with a changed surname or name may be considered a different individual.
So, is it possible? Yes, it is. Through a Georgian court. We can assist with this.
